The Dorset Echo School Awards in association with ASM and sponsored by Kingston Maurward College, Weymouth College, Wessex Fertility and the Plaza Dorchester was created to recognise and honour the important work done by teachers and support workers such as teaching assistants and school crossing staff.

To cap off the fantastic evening, the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Pam Govier, a teacher at Wey Valley Academy.

In 2008, her son Will Mackaness passed away aged 16 after battling a brain tumour. The Will Mackaness Trust was set up in his memory and Pam has been integral in the success of this Trust.

After winning her award, she said: “My heart is beating so much! I can’t believe it I’m speechless. I have always thoroughly enjoyed being a teacher and I continue to enjoy being a teacher.”
