Malaysia Expedition
In August 2024, 18 students from Wey Valley embarked on a 15-day expedition to Malaysia. The students started their expedition exploring local culture in Kuala Lumpur and Malacca. This included visiting Hindu, Chinese and Buddhist temples, markets and Petronas Towers.
After they travelled to Padang Kemunting and contributed to turtle conservation. During this project the students worked alongside the local community, building hatcheries for the turtles and fences along the beach to help prevent cars from damaging the natural ecosystem. In the village the students learnt traditional cookery from the local villagers and learnt all about Malaysian culture including traditional painting (Batik) and clothing.
Next, they took a 6-hour coach to Taman Rompin National park, which is a vast jungle with ambles of wildlife. The team completed 6 treks in total over 3 days and saw monkeys, spiders, scorpions, wild dogs and even evidence of elephants as they discovered their tracks. Students spent evenings in a communal area, where the students cooked food for the team together, played games and sang songs with our local tour guide. The students ended their jungle adventure with a trip to a waterfall deep in the heart of the national park.
To finish the expedition, we headed back to Kuala Lumpur, where the students spent their last two days participating in as many activities as they could fit in! This included white water rafting, visiting the Batu Caves, a firefly cruise and a visit to two of KLs largest shopping malls.
Throughout the expedition the students tackled new challenges every day and really proved how capable they were by challenging their self-awareness and resilience.
We are delighted to be able to offer a 13-night expedition to Indonesia, Bali on Saturday 19th July 2026 to our current Year 8, 9 and 10 students. The students would explore the local culture in Bali, contribute to coastal conservation and trek up Mount Batur and through the Munduk Rainforest. As a team they will tackle new challenges each day proving to the students just how capable they are, challenging their self-awareness and resilience.
If you are interested in sending you child on the next expedition, there are a few spaces left. Please contact Miss Porter for more information.
